How to estimate drywall correctly
Ordering the correct amount of drywall (sheetrock) is critical to keeping a renovation on budget. If you order too little, your taping crew has to stop working while you go to the store. If you order too much, you are wasting money and creating heavy trash.
Our calculator determines the gross surface area of your walls based on the room's perimeter and ceiling height. It then allows you to add the ceiling area, and crucially, subtract the area of standard doors (21 sq ft) and windows (12 sq ft).
Why do I need a waste factor?
Drywall is installed by cutting and snapping sheets to stagger seams. You will inevitably have off-cuts that cannot be reused. A standard 10% waste factor is recommended for beginners, while experienced drywall hangers can sometimes operate on a 5% margin.
